What’s New in Data Profiler 4.0?

The following features are enhancements to previous versions of Data Profiler:

Environments Supported

This release has been tested on the following environments:

System
Supported Versions
Hardware Platform
Microsoft Windows
2003 Server R2 SP1
XP SP2
x86

System Requirements

The following resources are the minimum recommended for a Windows operating system:

These system requirements are the minimum for satisfactory operation. For higher performance, be certain that there is physical memory to meet the requirements of the local system and all applications.

A large, complex profile may consume so much memory that it will not execute. Where business processes permit, redesign of the profile may resolve this issue.

Data Profiler 4.0 is a 32-bit application. Using a 64-bit operating system and more than 4 GB RAM is not recommended and does not help performance.

Best practice is to execute large, complex processes only on machines that have sufficient memory to load all components of the process while supporting the operating system and all other open applications.

Note  Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/Vista are not supported in this release. Technical support is not provided for these operating systems.

Known Issues

This section presents selected known issues for Data Profiler as of the release date. If you encounter an issue not found here, see Technical Support.

Issue
Problem / Description
Workaround
32324
Renaming scripts is done by right-clicking on a script name and entering a new name. However, scripts appear in Project Navigator without their .script suffix. This renders the renamed script unusable.
When renaming script files, type the new name plus the .script suffix.
32332
In the Project Navigator, you can move a profile from one project to another. But this process moves only the profile file itself; it does not move any supporting artifacts (connections, data sets, scripts) required by the profile. Unless the supporting files are also moved, the profile is not functional.
Make sure that when you move a profile to another project that you also move all the related files.
32594
Opening large engine .log files returns a browser error.
Two options are available:
  • Close any other open .log files to free memory.
  • Use a text editor to browse the file, such as WordPad.
32698
In the Data Profiler online help, attempting to search on certain strings returns a "HTTP Status 500" error.
Only a few search terms return the error. If the search function fails on a particular term, use the TOC or the Index instead.
32673
Data sets with a large number of fields display only part of the header in the data viewer. At times, the header disappears and reappears while scrolling.
Scroll slower through the fields so that the graphic refresh rate is not surpassed.
32833
After moving the data source file for a profile and returning to the profile editor, the properties pane is blank.
None.
32857
You cannot create a connection to SQL Server using the JDBC Generic connector. After you download the sqljdbc_1.1 driver, copy the sqljdbc.jar into the InstallDir\Data Profiler 4.0\jre\lib\ext directory, type the parts for the JDBC Generic connection and click the Test Connection button, a JDBC Driver class error is returned.
None.
