Child Alert Foundation (CAF)
"We're taking a proactive approach to save our children. I have evaluated other database systems, and no one can touch the dynamics of what we have been able to create with Pervasive.SQL."
-Vince Albers,
co-founder and vice president, Child Alert Foundation
Child Alert Foundation (CAF): Dedicated to assisting law enforcement agencies in the recovery of missing and abducted children.
About Child Alert Foundation (CAF)
The Child Alert Foundation (CAF), a non-profit organization founded in 1998, is the only organization of its kind that provides immediate notification to media and law enforcement agencies when a missing or abducted child report has been filed. Using CAF's Abduction Central Alert (ACA) software program, the proper authorities can target the location of an abduction, identify the media outlets and police departments within a 100-mile radius and send out a first alert notification.
Business Challenge
To deliver fast, accurate information to multiple news outlets and public safety agencies using reliable software that can be installed and maintained with little or no IT resources.
Pervasive.SQL Solution
In 1998, while designing a system to track arrest warrants via the Internet, Vince Albers read an article about the need of law enforcement agencies to have fast and accurate abduction information at their fingertips to solve abduction cases. At that time, police relied on manual notification processes that took hours and sometimes days to complete. Albers' solution was to automate the alert process with ACA software based on Pervasive.SQL. The software searches its databases and targets all participating agencies within a 100-mile radius of an abduction, sending out faxes and e-mails and activating personal pagers of area-wide support personnel. Media outlets can interrupt their normal broadcasts to alert the general public that an abduction alert is in effect-much like a traditional severe weather warning broadcast.
By using Pervasive.SQL, centrally stored information can be shared across the Internet or intranets, independent of networks. Remotely collected or modified data is synchronized with a central database. All the while, the database itself is completely transparent to the end user.
Bottom Line
The sooner the appropriate media outlets, authorities and municipalities are notified of an abduction, the greater the likelihood of a child's safe return. Using technology from Pervasive, the Child Alert Foundation is enabling life-saving information to reach broader audiences-more efficiently and rapidly than ever.
