About the E-commerce Solution
The e-commerce solution is a custom solution developed by the Professional Services Group of Pervasive Software®. As the name suggests, it's software designed to help businesses introduce e-commerce to their sales strategy. It's a fully equipped, enterprise-level solution, integrating directly with a company's back-end accounting package. But while most comparable software carries a $500,000 price tag, Pervasive's e-commerce Solution does it for about $40,000.

Business Challenge
SPRI Products had no e-commerce capabilities. Their sales efforts were limited to business hours, region, cost of sales, etc. They thought their products would sell over the Web-they already had successful catalog sales-but they had no way to facilitate online transactions.
Their accounting systems were built on Pervasive.SQLâ¢, so Pervasive was the logical choice to integrate their current systems with a new e-commerce solution. "Our main goal was to provide our customers with the ability to place and check orders online. But it was also important to us not to create twice the work when implementing an e-commerce solution," said Herb Flentye, CFO, SPRI Products.

Pervasive's e-commerce solution gave them exactly what they needed. SPRI's business hours immediately expanded-actually, they disappeared. With 24x7 operation, SPRI was able to reach new customers, give their current customers more freedom in ordering, and free their sales force to be more concentrated and productive. And by the nature of the Web, they also broke down geographical barriers.
But that's not all the e-commerce solution gave them. It also enabled them to more consistently track their customers, personalize each customer's experience, and ultimately, pass on their cost savings to their clients.
"By using Pervasive's e-commerce solution, we were able to implement a fully integrated package. We didn't have to worry about double-entry of customer or order information," Flentye continued. "Another great benefit is that everything is in real-time. We can access information as it happens on the site. And if we catch a pricing error or have a stock issue, we can fix it immediately-and the customers can see it fixed immediately. This flexibility is a big plus."
Bottom Line
With Pervasive's e-commerce solution in place, SPRI added 1000 new customers in the first six weeks. They are now doing an average of $3,500 of new (additional) business per week. At this rate, the e-commerce solution will pay for itself in 12 weeks. Of course, if you start to calculate the money they saved by not using one of the many half-million-dollar packages out there, SPRI's return on investment really starts to add up..
"Other e-commerce solutions could have easily cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars," remarked Flentye.
