Sr. Software Development Engineer

Successful candidate will be part of the Database Division Customer Development (CEDev) team. The CEDev team is responsible for fixing and troubleshooting field defects and thus the development and maintenance work will be primarily on already released products although at times, some new development work may be required. In this role, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Work on complex problems, with minimal supervision, where analysis of the situation requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors 
  • Provide timely fixes for field defects
  • Solve or recommend solutions to very complex issues and problems, including customers reported problems
  • Assist the development team in creating design specifications based on requirements for new or existing products
  • Exercise judgment within broadly defined practices in selecting methods and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Work effectively within a team environment and potentially serve in a leadership role
  • Establish a course of action to deliver high quality products on time

Required Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 8 years software development experience
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
  • In-depth knowledge of the system-level programming areas including:
    • Multi-threaded programming
    • Network protocol or communications stack, TCP/IP transport
    • Various IPC models
  • Strong development background
    • Languages: C/C++
    • Multiple platforms: Windows, UNIX flavors (Ex. Linux, Solaris, HP-UX), NetWare
  • Strong debugging skills
    • Knowledge of Windbg, gdb
    • Analyzing Windows/Linux userdumps
  • Strong OS/system level knowledge as it pertains to performance (time and space)
    • Process memory consumption
    • Scalability / Speed
    • Transaction throughput
    • 32-bit to 64-bit transition: interfaces, bootstrap, porting
  • Some data management background including:
    • Relational database concepts
    • SQL language, syntax and dialects (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres)
    • Relational data access methods (Ex. ODBC, JDBC, native)

 Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Good technical leadership skills
  • Diverse experience with a variety of programming languages, development tools, technology frameworks, application servers and databases
  • I18N software development experience for Japanese and European languages
